The Geocache Talk Network’s Thoughts

Gary

I wanted to do a marathon podcast to give back to a charity four years ago.  The eight hour podcast was settled on since YouTube allows for 8 hours in one video and as we started searching for the best charity to select and St. Jude was the perfect choice.  Memfis Wife used to work there and once you read what they have done to end childhood cancer I was fully on board and still am. So far we have raised over $7,000 over the past three marathon podcasts and I would love to see us get close to that number this year!

Thanks our Podcast of Hope donors and those that support St. Jude, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago.

Together we can help St. Jude change the world.

Geoff, aka Cache the Line

Many online communities seem to have some time of the year where people rally behind charitable fundraising efforts. When it comes to influencers (those of recognizable caliber within a community, typically bloggers and vloggers), they have a pre-existing platform and audience to help raise awareness, and can provide a prime opportunity to bring many together in support of charitable organizations – whether in a single united event, or individually with personal goals and organizations.

I have a friend in the video gaming community who runs OMG! Nexus (Old Married Gamers), who every year plays video games to fundraise in the annual Extra Life fundraising campaign.  This year was his final year and also his most successful, raising over $4000USD, with a 10 year total of $16,000.  That is simply amazing!  (And, another geo-vlogger in the GCNW also participates – Devin Pearce of the Keepers of the Cache Flo!)

The geocaching hobby is a very different sort of activity. And that’s why the Podcast of Hope annual fundraiser that Geocache Talk hosts is such an excellent opportunity for our community, and it’s why I’m more than honoured to be able to once again partner with them to help raise funds as part of the Geocache Talk Network. And this year I’m raising the stakes just a little with a new goal, pitching in with their efforts:

For the duration of the podcast I’ll be whittling and burning a new woodcraft art piece to be given away at the end of the podcast fundraiser.  It’ll be a live WednesdayWhittle on Sunday! So be sure to tune in to the Podcast of Hope and join our global community of geocachers to help raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Let’s smash through the $5000 goal!

Zak

GeocacheTalk’s Podcast of Hope is one of the coolest annual traditions in geocaching. I’m happy to have been a part of it from the beginning. From matching gifts for the children to finding caches, to doing a pull-up for every dollar donated during my hour, it has truly been one of the most fun charitable things I’ve been a part of and I can’t wait for this year as we take this charitable cause to the NEXT LEVEL!

Derek, aka Behind the Cache

This year I feel so blessed to be part of the Podcast for Hope. With now living in Memphis where St. Jude’s hospital is located I see the signs and building weekly if not daily. They are doing such great and wonderful things for the kids and families that are there. It amazes me that the only thing the families have to worry about is being there for their child. With the price of medical care being so expensive, St. Jude’s pays for everything so the parents don’t have to worry about medical bills piling up. What a blessing! They can only do this with our help. So please help us and donate this year during the Podcast of Hope.

Angie, aka Geocaching Jangie

I’m honored to be able to participate in another year’s efforts to raise funds during the Podcast of Hope for St. Jude’s! I love how we can come together, during this giving season, as a worldwide geocaching community and make a difference for families dealing with cancer. Plus, we get to have 8 hours of Geocache Talk Podcast awesomeness to either binge or savor as we decorate for Christmas!

We appreciate everyone’s support as we attempt to raise $5,000 (or more?!) towards St. Jude’s. Please share the links below, and the link to this blog post, so we can get the word out about this upcoming event, but more so, to relieve worry and financial strain for kids and families at St. Jude’s this holiday season! We’re grateful for your help!
