Curiosity welcome. Experience optional.

Your next great hide could start with a print.

Already printing? Just curious? You’re in the right place. Explore the ideas, experiments, and creative thinking that turn a digital design into a geocaching experience.

01 / IMAGINE

Start with a spark.

A surprising shape. A clever mechanism. A container that fits your theme. Think about the experience you want a finder to have.

02 / CREATE

Build it layer by layer.

Explore a model, sketch a custom part, or try your first prototype. Every version gives you something new to learn.

03 / REFINE

Make it a great find.

Check the fit, test the parts, and think about the person using it. A thoughtful design makes the adventure better.

From the workbench to the woods

What could you create?

Print the whole creation—or just the custom piece that makes your idea possible.

Creative Containers

Unusual shapes and themed designs that turn an everyday hide into a memorable discovery.

Camouflage & Covers

Custom outer shells that suit a location while a separate inner container protects the log.

Puzzles & Moving Parts

Dials, sliders, gears, and custom components that give finders something to figure out.

Mounts & Holders

Brackets, inserts, and holders designed around your particular build and its approved hiding location.

Caching Accessories

Useful ideas for organizing supplies, holding logs, and personalizing your caching kit.

Prototypes & Repairs

Test a mechanism, improve a fit, or create a replacement part for one of your own builds.

The print is only the beginning

Make it ready for the hide.

A great print deserves a little testing before it becomes someone else’s adventure.

Think About the Location

Consider sun, rain, temperature, and how the cache will be supported. Test the build in the conditions you expect.

Think About the Finder

Consider grip, reach, instructions, and reset steps. Make the experience enjoyable without relying on unnecessary force.

Think About Maintenance

Plan for log changes, wear, and repairs. Keep your files and build notes so replacing a part is easier later.

Before you hide: Test whether the finished build keeps the log dry. Get landowner permission, check applicable placement guidelines, and follow the license and credit requirements for any model you use.

The 3D Talk Podcast

Coming Soon

A new Geocache Talk Network podcast dedicated to 3D printing geocaches. Bring your questions, your ideas, and your curiosity as we explore what’s possible—one layer at a time.

Hosts, launch details, and episode links will be added as they are announced.

Start with a question

Let’s get you started.

Open a question below to explore the possibilities.

Do I need to own a 3D printer?

No. Start by exploring designs and learning what you’d like to create. A local library, makerspace, or printing service may offer access to a printer.

Do I have to design everything myself?

No. You can explore existing models or learn to design your own. Check each model’s license before modifying, sharing, or selling a model or print, and provide any required credit.

What should I print first?

Choose something small and simple that solves a clear problem. A holder, insert, or basic prototype is a useful way to learn about fit and usability.

Can I share a build or suggest a topic?

Absolutely! Tell us what you’re making, what you’d like to learn, or what challenge you’ve encountered. Email geocachetalk@gmail.com with “3D Talk” in the subject line.

When does the podcast launch?
